A call to write

Trent Erwin

I imagine every writer or blogger has to deal with the question of purpose. Someone once quipped that “for every vibrant blog that exists, there are probably twenty that shouldn’t ”. What then could be the purpose of yet another blog?

Seeing that we can’t faithfully live out the Christian life without being sustained by God’s word, I thought it a good idea to pass along some helpings of soul food, as I help myself to same. My aim is to highlight the crucial role our faith, and consequently the Bible, plays in our everyday lives as believers. It is worth clarifying that this objective is not an attempt to impose some relevance on the Bible, rather, it is to bare one it already has.

To be clear, I wouldn’t be offering anything particularly new. What I hope to achieve is, first to be reminded of biblical truth, and only then after, pass it on.

I also hope to share other helpful resources such as articles, links to recommended websites and books that faithfully hold out the truth of God’s Word.

ThrivebyTheWord is about seeking to awaken a renewed sense of delight and trust in the living and abiding Word of God. It is about living from our identity as sheep that hear the voice of our good shepherd, and follow him.

And in case you’re wondering what the tag line “renewed minds, transformed lives” is all about, it is a succinct expression of the ultimate goal of the Christian life – conformity to the image of Jesus Christ.

Head, heart and hands

Conformity as the end goal isn’t passive or complacent; rather, it involves a purposeful transforming process. And one of the primary means by which that transformation occurs is through the renewing of our minds by the Word of God.

The link between the mind and the heart is best expressed in this saying – ‘the heart cannot love what the mind does not know’ – Jen Wilkin.

What this simply means is that passions, and consequently actions, flow out of knowledge of a fact or information. Our hands and feet move in response to what primarily occupies our minds.

Thus the counsel here is to pursue renewed minds which inevitably result in transformed lives. Slowly but surely, transformation comes by The Word.

May I invite you to come along and drink from the fount of living waters?

Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life…” John 6:68

Thanks for reading!
